A pencil sketch of a young girl with straight hair and bangs, showing a distorted, crying face with tears and an expression of pain or distress.

WHY DO YOU FEEL?

30 x 42cm

Pencil on translucent paper

Emotions are never expressed in its entirety. The translucency of the paper is preserved with the skilful control of graphite on the background and hair. The distortion of the piece points towards how emotions easily deceive others as we put up a facade to mask our true feelings, only revealing a fragment of our true emotions. The girl’s expression combined with the artistic elements reflect how one emotion can vary and be experienced at different magnitudes unique to each individual.
