Oil
Fruition– Oil on Canvas 114cm x 89cm (commission) | "That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers." Psalms 1:3 | This piece has its roots grounded in the bible verse Psalms 1 verse 3. By fusing abstract and surrealist forms, it highlights the key points in the verse– tree, fruits and water. The contrast between complementary colours and vibrancy throughout the piece amplify the strength of this tree. Steering away from the conventional colour scheme that realism entails, this expands the idea of the many seasons and stages of fruition. The circular strokes throughout this piece pay attention to the inner details of the objects within the painting. This alludes the the cross-sectional stump of a tree and harvested fruits while the blue hues also point to the representative idea of water. As water is pure and fluid it also inspires the gentle yet strong paint strokes resembling its duality in vigour and calm. Despite all the abrasiveness in the external, this piece goes beyond the depth to explore the vehement nature of the tree; standing firm and prospering whilst embracing all that is around it.
